ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Thursday held the caretaker government and PML-Quaid leadership responsible for the killing of its supporters at a welcome point in Rawalpindi and said his party would take revenge of the killing. At least four PML-N workers and supporters were shot down and dozens injured around Airport Chowk a few hours before Nawaz Sharif reached there.Sharif later told a public meeting at the same place that the government had started using ‘all unfair means’ to impede election campaign of the PML-N but the party would sweep coming elections despite such hurdles.PML-N chief was earlier accorded a warm welcome by hundreds of party workers and supporters workers at airport roundabout. A long number of cars were also queued up alongside the road to escort Sharif to Sadiqabad, where he was scheduled to address a public meeting. Barrister Sultan Mehmood and Javed Hashmi led the workers.Well before Sharif’s arrival at around 3:30pm, the welcome rally was fired at by rival political group. The firing not only caused a chaos-like situation but also led to traffic jam there.Sharif reached at chowk at around 5:00pm. Minutes after, caravan of PML-N activists began moving to Sadiqabad but was stopped at Zia mosque where people standing alongside the road waved to Sharif. The PML-N stepped out of his vehicle and shook hands with his supporters. Rose petals were showered on him amid loud sloganeering. Rooftops on the roadside were also covered with people. The caravan then moved on to Sadiqabad at a snail’s pace but when he came close to the venue of public meeting, he learned about the bombing of PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto outside Liaquat Bagh. He was quick to cancel his plans to address public meeting and made it to the Rawalpindi General Hospital.
