ISLAMABAD: The federal capital’s lawyers on Wednesday warned the government of a nationwide agitation if it fails to restore the deposed judges. The Murree Declaration signed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had promised the judges’ restoration within 30 days of the central government’s formation. The deadline ended on Wednesday. The lawyers boycotted the court proceedings for an hour and held a hunger strike camp at the district courts. They accused the PPP-led government of betraying them and the nation by not restoring the deposed judges within a month of its formation. Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) General Secretary Riasat Ali Azad said that the lawyers had halted their movement as the coalition partners promised to restore the judiciary to the November 2 position. “We stand betrayed by the political leaders,” he said. He said the current government would suffer a fate similar to that of the previous government if the deposed judges were not restored. IBA President Haroonur Rasheed said that 100,000 lawyers across the country had suspended the campaign for the judges’ restoration for one month at the political parties’ request but they would re-launch it if the judges were not restored. He said that the lawyers would act in line with the decisions of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) slated for Friday
