ISLAMABAD: Rejecting the three Supreme Court judges who took oath on Friday, lawyers said that the reappointment had damaged the lawyers’ movement, but they would continue their struggle until the reinstatement of sacked Supreme Court chief justice, Iftikhar Chaudhry.“It is one of the major setbacks to the lawyers movement, during the past one and half year,” Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Secretary Amin Javed told Daily Times. He said that people of the country and lawyers had made the judges heroes, however, unfortunately they had acted otherwise. “These judges have decided against their conscience,” he said. He was of the view that the judges would now facilitate the government in its “illegal acts”. However, he said that the reinstatement was a result of pressure exerted by the lawyers movement but termed it illegal and unconstitutional. He vowed that lawyers would not sit idle until the restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry.Disappointed: Rawalpindi Bar President Sardar Asmatullah said that the reappointment had been a setback for the lawyers movement. “Yes, we are all disappointed, by accepting reappointment these judges have let the whole nation down,” he said. He said that with the reappointment a disappointment had engulfed the whole legal fraternity. “They fell in the trap and did not sided with the nation,” Asmat said. He was of the view that the reappointed judges had let down the hopes of the population. He also termed the decision as a hasty one, and said that if they had to accept reappointment, they should have done it earlier. He maintained that the reappointment was illegal, as the oath could not be administrated twice for the same position. He said that lawyers would hold a meeting in Lahore on September 11 to finalise the future strategy of the movement.Islamabad Bar Association General Secretary Riasat Ali Azad said that by taking a fresh oath the judges had betrayed the movement and the whole nation. He said that it was a setback for the movement. He vowed that the movement would continue until the restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry and all those judges who did not accept the reappointment on government terms.
