Kinari Project to have serious socio-economic impact’

ISLAMABAD: Scientists from COMSATS have pointed out serious and long-term social and economical impacts for the locals of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project at Kunhar River, in NWFP’s Kaghan valley and have suggested that NEPRA should take proper mitigation measures to complete the project successfully.COMSATS Institute of Information Technology professors Dr Muhammad Qasim and Dr Amir Haider Malik have written a letter to the registrar of NEPRA and said that after the evaluation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the project, they had found that EIA procedures had not been shared with the local community and their concerns and opinions were not included in the report. They suggested that the EIA of the project should be immediately revised to include the missing public approvals
