ISLAMABAD: Judges sacked on November 3 will be restored in line with the Murree Declaration “in due course of time”, Law Minister Farooq H Naek said on Wednesday.Talking to reporters after a meeting with an Islamabad District Bar Association (IDBA) delegation, he said the people should “wait patiently” for the judges’ re-instatement. He said his government would repeal the laws which were not in the public interest and form new ones that would dispense justice to the common man. He said his ministry was considering a proposal to begin evening sessions of the lower courts to clear a heavy backlog of cases. If implemented, the proposal would enable fresh law graduates to practice, he added. Bail: The Law Ministry was also considering a proposal to allow bail to people on trial for murder, if their cases were not heard within two years, and people on trial in minor offences if their cases were not heard for one year. Naek declined to comment on whether the government planned to remove the requirement that candidates must hold a BA degree to contest general elections. He said the matter was sub-judice.He denied a media report that the government was considering making Justice Falak Sher – the most senior of all serving and sacked judges – the new chief justice of Pakistan. He also denied a report that that his ministry had recommended replacing Attorney General Malik Qayyum. Earlier, the IDBA delegates discussed their problems with the law minister and called for an early construction of the Islamabad High Court building and new chambers for lawyers at the district courts. Naek told them their problems would be addressed. IDBA President Haroonur Rasheed led the delegation.
