Afridi forms committee to probe fire incident
ISLAMABAD: Taking note of the fire on Margalla Hills, Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi on Saturday constituted a committee to investigate the incident. According to the officials, Inspector General Forest Muhammad Iqbal Sial will head the committee, which has been directed to submit a detailed report to Afridi within a week. The committee will coordinate with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and visit the affected area to find the facts about the fire incident that damaged flora and fauna in Margalla Hills National Park. The minister expressed serious concern over the incident. He said the government attached highest priority to the conservation of nature and preservation of the natural habitats. He said the CDA had already been directed to check such incidents and improve the fire fighting system. He said the fire fighters should not relay only on water to extinguish fire and they must use modern means to overcome such accidents. He said the Ministry would take every action to protect, conserve and preserve the wildlife and forests in the Margalla Hills areas. Afridi said CDA should take practical measures to avoid such incidents in future.
